Kurt Vonnegut

For my American author proposal project I have chosen an author almost at random, but I am happy to have the luck to be gotten such an author because the genre, theme and method on how he writes books almost instantly caught my mind with interest, the author which I’m appraising so much is Kurt Vonnegut.
You might be wondering what kind of books does Kurt Vonnegut writes? Well after looking at it he has written books that blend together dark humor with Science Fiction. Now what caught my eye when I gotten this author is that weird blending of Sci-Fi which I know and love, and black comedy (or Dark humor) which I sometimes find funny but creepy at the same time. It’s two completely different subjects which I didn’t know could be conglomerated together to achieve a readers entertainment (especially mines). But I chose Mr. Vonnegut anyway, so I can get a good idea of how Sci-Fi/ Dark Humor novels write out, and because I heard Slaughterhouse five was a very good book that has been banned lots of times from various institutions and caused criticism and speculation about Vonnegut. Man I love controversy.
I feel that this Author is important to the development of American Literature because with his imagination and real life experiences printed unto text, he captivated minds and sparked peoples imaginations for the second half of the 20th century. The books he wrote books that showed the characteristics of human nature and it’s extents. How far will human nature go to reach it’s goals or how humanity contradictions causes problems and can end up with inhumane consequences. Although these might seem like the main themes that occur in his books, it’s actually really difficult to point out that he has a main theme, which can lead to lots of questions being asked about does he really want to talk about in his books and if they are related to his real life experiences.
Books that I will be reading for my independent reading requirements is Player Piano (1952), Slaughter house five (1969), and Breakfast of Champions (1973), all great books that are must reads, all great books that have different themes and messages. The biography that I will read is The Vonnegut Effect. But when it comes to the articles I really couldn’t find one for right now but hopefully I will in the future since there is criticism that surrounds this author and his books.
So that’s my author Kurt Vonnegut.
